On the way back visit the one of the jewels in the Angkor area, Banteay Srei, dates back to the late 10th century. The enchanting temple is nearly everyone's favourite site. The special charm of this temple lies in its remarkable state of preservation, small size and excellence of decoration. It was built by a Brahmin of royal descent who was a spiritual teacher to Jayavarman V, which is unique as this makes Banteay Srei the only major temple built by a non-King. A special feature of the exquisite decoration was the use of hard pink sandstone.

Siem Reap – Sightseeing

Meals included: Breakfast

This morning take a stroll around on-the-ground of a beautiful little market selling lots of farmer produce mostly freshness fruits, veggies and much more charming than the displays of industrial products.  Walking through, you will see people are busy with bargaining taking place around stalls with authentic aesthetic, even involuntary. You can taste some new-made cookies with delicacy also seasonal fruits.  This is an enthusiasm flavor while you are able to be in touch with the locals.

Reach Roluos mid-morning. This was once the seat of the Hariharalaya, the first capital of the ancient Khmer Empire. Roluos’ three main features are Preah Ko, Lolei and Bakong. Bakong and Preah Ko were constructed by King Indravarman I where Lolei was constructed by King Yasovarman I. All three structures however, date back to the late 9th century and represent the beginning of the classical period of Khmer civilization. Walking through temple and get inside a pagoda then Buddhist monks will celebrate a private blessing ceremony for you, wishing your health and prosperity– a very special experience.

After lunch, continue afterwards to Kampong Phluck over small roads. Kampong Phluck is a cluster of three villages of stilted houses built within the floodplain of the Tonle Sap. The villages are primarily Khmer and have about 3000 inhabitants between them. Flooded mangrove forest surrounds the area and is home to a variety of wildlife. During the dry season when the water levels are low, the buildings in the villages seem to soar atop their 6-meter stilts. At this time of year many of the villagers move out onto the lake and build temporary stilted houses. In the wet season when water level rises again, the villagers move back to their permanent houses on the floodplain, the stilts now hidden under the water. Return to Siem Reap following a different way or opt to use the transportation provided.

(Note: Kampong Phluk is practically located at the edge of the Tonle Sap lake, every year the water level rises and falls. The village may fully flood between July-Dec otherwise all boats cannot access through the village just only from the last pier onto the lake, rowboat is also unavailable. However, your visit during low water offering you a fascinating way to wander along the rough road of the village where you can be closer to meet local friendly people & preserved flooded forests etc.  And if you interest in taking boat, an alternative floating village at Chong Kneas can be arranged instead).

Now, you are ready to escape from the crowd by exploring the amazing temples of Angkor Wat was built in the early 12th century following the model of the temple mountain symbolizing Mount Meru the home of the gods. Inside the temple, the walls are covered with stone carvings and bas-reliefs depicting Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II fought during his reign. There are more than 2,000 Apsaras (heavenly dancers) decorating the temple. Construction is thought to have taken around thirty years of intensive labour. Today, Angkor Wat features on Cambodia's national flag as well as its beer as the temple symbolizes the heart and soul of the Khmer people.   (Note: If travellers wish to climb up on Bakan towers, you need to line-up, not allow for child under 12 years old. The towers close on Buddhist observance day also other days of religious event.)

Continue afterwards to the former capital of the Angkor Kingdom, Angkor Thom, which translates to “Great City”. The city covers an area of 9km² in which numerous breath-taking monuments were built. The centrepiece of the city is the Bayon. Its most distinctive features are the 216 serene stone faces that seemingly face all directions. The Baphuon and Phimeanakas are structures built in the 11th and 10th century respectively and both were built in the pyramid style. The Terrace of the Elephants is a 300 meters long terrace that has three main platforms and two subsidiary ones. The south stairway is framed with three-head elephants gathering lotus flowers with their trunks. The central stairway is decorated by lions and garudas in bas-reliefs in a stance of support for the stairways.

The remainder of the afternoon is dedicated to Ta Prohm, which is considered to be the most photographed temple within the Angkor complex. Constructed in the Bayon style between the late 12th and early 13th century, Ta Prohm was left pretty much untouched by archaeologists.
